Happiness is ........
A reminder that our future happiness is not dependent upon securing a place on one chosen course at one chosen university. It is much much larger than that and depends on our attitude and determination.

Happiness is…… and useful numbers
There are over 50,000 undergraduate courses offered in the UK, because each of us is different and no one size fits all, thankfully. Imagine a world full of people who have read just one subject at one university – what a limited world that would be. As Results’ Day approaches, it is easy to forget that we are all different and yet equally special and there is no need to be jealous of others and their perceived success. Happiness is not to be found in a certain university or a certain course, happiness is far bigger than that. As big decisions are made in the next few days, remember that to a certain extent it does not matter where you go or what you study, what matters is your attitude and determination to succeed.
This year there were over 26,000 courses still available through clearing when it opened, for those who wish to change their mind and choose another course – lots of options are available for everyone and clearing is a very positive option for those whose exam results point them to a different course than they were expecting. The UCAS hub gives lots of ideas and advice how to access clearing. Remember, that you ring each university you are interested in going to, with your UCAS ID, Clearing number and exam results, and you can ask them if they will accept you on your chosen course with your grades (have your personal statement to hand, just in case they ask why you want to study with them), and they will give you a verbal offer. You can phone as many universities as you wish, then you choose the one you wish to attend and add their details to your UCAS clearing account.
UCAS suggests that you ask some of the following questions:
• Availability of the course
• Entry requirements
• Whether they’ll accept your grades
• Whether accommodation is still available, if needed
• If you can receive a verbal offer
• What the next steps are once an offer is given.
However there are some useful contact numbers in case you need some advice:
The National Careers Service will be delivering exam results support from 14 – 30 August , on 0800 100 900.
UCAS helpline will also be offering support from 8am on 14th August on 03714 680468
All the very best with your decisions this week and your future career.
